A Star Wars-Themed Birthday, Much Fun It Was!

IMG_1925[1]Kidding, I was not, when I mentioned we have a lot of autumn birthdays in our family! As I’ve mentioned before, I love celebrating birthdays, and each joyous occasion is as unique as the individual!

A few weeks ago, we celebrated our youngest daughter, Geneva’s, birthday, but the party itself had been planned well in advance. Geneva is a girly-girl and loves all things princess, but she also has a deep regard for Star Wars, or Star Horse as she called it when she was younger.

Several years ago, I began to notice that when I arrived home from a dentist appointment, running errands or grocery shopping, the girls would be cuddled next to Jonathan on the couch watching Star Wars, Clone Wars or Star Wars Rebels.

I also enjoy Star Wars, however, I am not near the expert that Jonathan and the girls are. Not even close. I’m often quickly lost in their conversations, and I can tell you that Jonathan is one proud dad teaching our girls the Star Wars legacy. I’m slowly learning more names of ships, characters such as Ahsoka Tano (yes, I had to look that up) and Aviah recently mentioned that I could find a considerable amount of information on Wookieepedia. (yes, I had to look that up as well and yes, it’s very real.)

So it really came to no surprise when Geneva requested a Star Wars party, or should I say, a surprise, it was not. (I do know who Yoda is!)

This was such a fun party to plan and an exceptional way to incorporate art into our school studies. Three ships were built (including the Millenium Falcon), two space ship control panels and a game with flashing lights when you attacked the Death Star. I apologize that there aren’t pictures for this, but they were painted with glow in the dark paint, and our camera couldn’t fully capture their awesomeness.

However, I did get pictures of the cake/cupcakes! Desserts, awesome they are!

For the cake and cupcake batter, I used the chocolate cake/cupcake recipe found here. The frosting is a favorite Buttercream Frosting found at Wilton. The only substitution I made with the frosting/icing was palm fruit shortening instead of vegetable shortening, added about 1-2 tablespoons of cocoa powder to give it a brownish color and dusted the cake with cocoa powder to match the décor.

Young padawans also need something refreshing to sip on, and nothing could be more perfect than Yoda Soda. Refreshing, it is. Green, it is. Easy to make, it is:

Yoda Soda

-Fill glasses about 3/4 full with lime sherbet

-Add enough lime La Croix to almost fill glass

(adapted from a recipe found on Pinterest)

These recipes would work well for any Star Wars-themed party, which I’m sure we will be making again when the new movie comes out this month!

  1. I love that Geneva is a girly girl that loves Star Wars!! Hope she had a wonderful birthday – everything looks AWESOME!

    1. Thank you, Jasmine! You should have seen the look on her face when she opened up her light saber — complete awe! 😀

  2. Much fun you had! That’s awesome! I love using La Croix with the Sherbet instead of Sprite or Seven Up (which I have used for Yoda Soda in the past).

    1. Wonderful, it was! 😉 Yes, you are the one you taught me about La Croix (on a Loving Lately post!) and now we love it, too!! Taught me well, you have! 😉

      1. It’s times like this that make me wish they had Star Wars emoticons. I would have an Ewok and a treehouse with a couple fires and Storm Trooper helmet drums because I want to celebrate!

        1. That would be awesome, Sadie! 😀 I’ve wondered the same thing, why are there no Star Wars emoticons?! Lol.

    2. Oh dear! My Yoda speak is really messing up my typing/grammar! Meant to say “you are the one who taught me …”, but knew that you did. 😉

      1. I read it just how you meant it, didn’t even notice anything wrong… How about noticing 2 seconds after I hit reply that I wrongly said I would get air fare to the capital of Iowa instead of Idaho last night… Awesome. Thankfully WordPress allows editing;)

        1. Oh, I can relate, Sadie! 😀 Editing is a wonderful gift! Lol.

  3. Your cake and cupcakes are just adorable! The lime drinks had to be delicious too. Color of yoda right? I’ve kind of lost my star wars knowledge.

    1. Thanks so much, Julie! 🙂 Yes, the lime drink was actually very tasty! Yes, kind of the color of Yoda, and I completely understand! I have to ask Jonathan and the girls many questions about Star Wars! I think they’re trying to get me “caught up” with Star Wars knowledge for the upcoming movie. Ha!

  4. your children have such pretty names! also, those images on the cupcakes are super cute 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, b! Aviah found the Star Wars images on an ipod app, then we cut them out and glued them to toothpicks. They worked really well. 🙂

  5. Shew ! You were a busy lady 🙂 . What a beautiful party and set up, everything looks so lovely. I have pinned the cupcake and frosting recipe, as I know I will be making those (I adore cupcakes). Enjoy your week further 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, dear Lynne! 🙂 I hope you will enjoy the cupcake recipe! Hope you’re having a lovely week!

  6. Indeed, everything does look, like it has been a very fun birthday party! Also, our girls seem to be very similar. My one is a girly girl, loves dresses, skirts and everything pink, but her favorite toys are cars…I think, it`s funny!

    1. Thank you so much, Claudia! 🙂 Our daughters do sound very similar — that is so sweet! 🙂

  7. So awesome! I bet she loved every bit of it!

    1. She did, indeed! 😀 When she opened her light saber — complete awe! 😉

  8. Wise you are, yes, to plan Star wars party (said in Yoda voice). Everyone in my house, including me, would totally love this party! #StarWarsForever

    1. Wish you could have joined us, I do! 🙂 #StarWarsForever

  9. So wonderful that they share special times with their dad! The star wars theme is so cool! I also love both of your daughters name, had to add that in! Fun party!

    1. Thank you so much, Lynn! 🙂

      1. Another wonderful party!

        1. Thank you so much, dear Lynn!

  10. Thank you so much, Lynn! 🙂
